WAVES
2021
Throughout the whirlpool of events in which the world embarked in since the detection of Covid-19, no other word was more omnipresent than ´WAVES´. We used the word to describe both the terrifying and the terrific: the tsunami of fake news; the waves of Covid-19 casualties, broadcasted daily and visualized through the ebb n´ flo of line charts; but also, scientific advancements and the up-rise of once silenced voices seeking equity in rights.
The ‘WAVES’ series was photographed in 2021 Spain; one year in navigating the pandemic without an end in sight. After a deadly winter wave, Spain observed the rise of a low tide coming and new found hope with scientific advancements… Coexistently, I saw the sea reflect these waves: slowly ushering dead seaweed to shore, welcoming glistening clear horizons, just after the bleak wave break.
Life, as we learned empirically, comes in WAVES.
